The theme focuses on ending persistent poverty, and by respecting all people and our planet.
With this comes the opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, and an opportunity for them to make their concern heard for a moment and recognize they are their fighting for poverty. This years celebration was the 30th celebration since the UN general assembly declared in 17th October as international day for eradication of poverty.
In Kenya the numbers are 43.6% of the Kenyan population is living below poverty line, earning less than 1.09 US dollars per day, that was in 2005. 10 years later in 2015 the poverty rate dropped to 35.6% and thus a downwards trend. Now some 26.3% woke an less than 1.09 US dollars as by 2021. The main effects of poverty are diversed from the reduced job opportunity to lower wage less access to healthcare assistance, difficulties transitioning to remote learning and food insecurities also it has been made it harder due to covid 19.
The only ways of eradicating poverty is by building up communities which are one and helping each other. The people of low income should take part in construction and building infrastructure thus earning income. The Government also should lend money to lower businesses with reduced interest rates thus help economy building and self building.
